THE THINGS
AROUND THE SONG

THE SONG

wanting something after it starts to hurt

SPIT is about wanting closeness badly enough that pain stops feeling like a reason to leave.

The song keeps turning affection into something physical. Dirt in an eye. Hands that murder. Clay needing fire. The person at the center of it can hurt you, change you, hollow you out, and somehow the attachment still feels permanent.

I think that contradiction is what I like about it. There is something ugly in wanting to belong to somebody completely, but there is also something very human about it.

By the end, the song gets stuck on one thought: I was saving all you said in my heart. It repeats until it stops sounding like an explanation and starts sounding more like a compulsion.

THE FEELING NEEDED SOMEWHERE TO EXIST.

THE FILM

giving the feeling
somewhere to exist

The video puts that feeling inside the world I was actually living in.

My apartment, the objects around me, strange little pieces of art, windows, streets, furniture, and the scenery I had started taking for granted all became part of it.

I liked the contrast between a song that feels emotionally extreme and images that are mostly quiet and ordinary. The video does not explain the song. It just gives the feeling somewhere to exist.
